Buried
in the walls of Immaculate Conception Church are the remains of a great
Pilcher pipe organ originally built for the 1884 Louisiana Cotton Exposition.
This great organ was so powerful, the New Orleans Picayune reported, in
September, 1884, that the organ was responsible for the collapse of the
roof of the main fair building on the night the fair closed. To see photos

THE PRESENT ORGAN AT CHURCH OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION is a three manual Phoenix digital organ.
Prior to the installation of the Phoenix instrument in 2007, the church used a small 4 rank, 2 manual Moller Artiste which can be seen tucked away in the left rear corner of the gallery in one of the photos above. That instrument, Moller Opus 11054 (from 1975), is now relocated to a residence in Texas.
